Facebook

Monday, July 14th, 2008

It took me a while to get into but now Facebook has become something I look forward to viewing and has changing the way I keep in touch with friends. There is growing opinion that Facebook is heading into troubled waters as employers are starting to view their employees profiles which has begun to restrict the content that the university student base users are uploading. I can understand this concern as I monitor what I upload and filter comments from friends that could offend others. I believe this common concern may create an avenue for another player to enter the social networking web platform as Facebook’s focus becomes to broad. I have just finished launching my second group on Facebook where people are able to join the Our Stadium Supporters club to grow our membership numbers. This is a perfect example of where Facebook is crossing over between personal to business use which is restricting users true personalities in response to those that could be watching and judging.

The Dunedin Club

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Last night was The Dunedin Club’s 150th Jubilee Black Tie Ball held at the Dunedin Town Hall in the Glenroy Banquet Hall. The Dunedin Club has a distinguished history which stretches back to the pioneers of the 1850s. In 1848 the two settler ships John Wickliffe and Philip Laing berthed at Dunedin, bringing Otago’s first European migrants. Ten years later, a group of entrepreneurs founded The Dunedin Club in rented premises in Maclaggan Street. We were also very fortunate to have world famous actor Sam Neill as the key note speaker as weather diverted his flight to Christchurch where he then had to make the long drive to Dunedin. Sam spoke entertainingly about his career, the club and his families four generations of involvement. Credit needs to be paid to Humphrey Catchpole and his team of organisers as this event was very well planed and as a result an extremely enjoyable night.

Jonny Love

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Jonny Love’s much anticipated album release has been annonced for the 30th of June (”The Last Day of June“). Jonny studied with me at Otago University before moving to Auckland to make a name for himself. While studying Jonny was the most popular performer in Dunedin playing at bars such as Two Bears, Brimstone, and Soal Bar to name a few. His talent doesn’t just end with his ability to make great music, Jonny has since started his own production company Limelight Records Limited which has produced his first album. Check out Jonny’s blog and listen to his popular single “Not The First Not The Last” which is being played on MoreFM and JuiceTV. Come and share the evening with Jonny Love at the album release party on the 28th of June at The Grange on Ponsonby Road.

Light Blues

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Last night I was elected onto the committee of the Light Blues which is an Association of former players, officials and supporters of the Otago University Rugby Club for the purpose of fostering interest in rugby at the University of Otago and in the Club. The Light Blues were always very supportive while I played rugby and have given generously to the club for many years. My aim for this association is to promote their membership to younger past players and those non-playing members that have supported the club while studying at the University. Our Club is the greatest rugby club in the country, as I have finished my rugby career I feel it is important for me to continue my support as a non-player so that others can share the enjoyment I have had.

Otago Hunt Club 125th Jubilee

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

While in Dunedin for my graduation my parents couldn’t help partake in the Otago Hunt Club 125th Jubilee. Hunting is a sport that I have been involved in my whole life. My mother and father, Bruce and Tessa, are life members of the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club where my father has recently retired from the position of Master of the Hunt. Bruce is the Treasurer of the New Zealand Hunt Clubs Association as well as a past New Zealand 6 Year Old Showjumping Champion. Tessa is an experienced Dressage rider and recently competed in the National Dressage Championships in Gisborne. Today they have left for home but plan to hunt again with North Otago and Christchurch Hunts on the way.

Big Night Night

Check this new Queenstown Night life experience out! What a great night was had! The night consisted of visiting 5 bars, receiving a free shot at each, while being escorted by a great team of fun, energetic, gougeous staff (and a couple of blokes). Go check out their web site and book a spot on their next tour. This is a great way of experiencing Queenstowns night life in a safe controlled environment.
